Thompson Tractor offers a variety of career opportunities. We have multiple departments within our company that requires a different range of skill sets.
Customer Support Agreement – The CSA Department manages agreements between Thompson and the customer which help them lower their cost per unit of production. Agreements are tailored to fit customer’s business needs and can range from simple Preventive Maintenance Kits to sophisticated Total Maintenance and Repair Agreements. No matter which option they choose, they can be assured that we will provide them with careful planning and ongoing attention helping them succeed and ensuring a successful partnership.
Finance –The finance department offers opportunities in many essential areas of the Company. Thompson Tractor’s Customer Service department helps customers to resolve payment issues, maintain accounts, and establish new accounts. It works in tandem with the Accounts Receivable department, who allocates and applies customer payments. Both work directly with customers in an effort to maintain a successful receivables portfolio. Additionally, our relationship with Cat Financial and other financiers calls for employees to facilitate machine transactions.
IT – We invest in the latest technology to provide our employees the best tools available to service our customers. Careers such as .Net Developer, Server and Network Support, Administration, Project Manager, and others help us deliver the technology needed to provide world class service to our customers and to support world class products from Caterpillar.
Lift Truck – As one of the nation’s leading lift truck dealers we serve the equipment, parts, and service needs of lift truck customers in Alabama, Georgia, and Northwest Florida. We are proud to offer a number of first-rate products from world-class companies such as Caterpillar, Crown, Mitsubishi, Jungheinrich, Hyundai, Kalmar, CombiLift, and many others.
Parts – The Parts Department is a significant contributor to the dealer’s entire operation. Jobs associated with the Parts Department include, Parts Counter personnel that interact with customers to look up and identify parts needed for repairs and maintenance. Parts Sales Service Representative (PSSR) that call on customers and assist them in increasing production with minimum operating cost. Shipping Clerks make up the majority of employees within the Parts Department. Their responsibilities include storing inbound orders and pulling parts orders for customers and the TTCO Service Department. Thompson Rapid Access (TRA) Drivers make daily runs to connect all stores to their customer parts ordering needs. The Parts Department manages approximately 200,000 sq. ft. of warehouse space.
Rental – The Cat Rental Store is a division of Thompson Tractor. We have a full line of construction equipment for rent and sale, and we service all of the products that we offer. We rent and sell Caterpillar products, but our division also serves many markets outside of the traditional earth moving customers such as HVAC, Plumbers, Steel Erectors, Painters, and Iron Workers. The Cat Rental Store offers exciting careers in Sales, Service, and Operations where employees have the opportunity to excel and gain the knowledge necessary to advance within the company.
Sales – Thompson Tractor Company sells a large line of products including earthmoving and allied equipment, forklifts, electric power generators, and engines used in industrial and marine applications. We offer exciting and rewarding careers for sales professionals. The Sales Department also employees a large support staff that works with customers and outside sales people. Product Specialists, Billing Clerks, Sales and Rental Coordinators, and other administrative and management staff are critical to serving our customers.
Service – Using trained Caterpillar certified technicians, welders and machinists Thompson Tractor Co. Service Department provides full line service and maintenance support to the complete line of Caterpillar equipment, Allied products, and competitors’ models. Our focus is to maintain and support our customers’ service needs by offering repair and rebuild options on engines, transmissions, hydraulics, undercarriages, and other machine components and systems. We also have a welding and machine facility to repair machine attachments and major machine components. We offer these services in our shops or on site through our field service department associated with our facilities located throughout Alabama and Northwest Florida.
Transportation – A fleet of tractor trailers and hauling trucks moves between our facilities and our customers’ locations and job sites day and night hauling machines, components, and parts.
Warranty – A Warranty Claims Tech files electronic claims to CAT and other Allied vendors to recover warranty repair expenses for Thompson Tractor. The claims tech follows the work order from the end of the warranty repair process to the final payment of the warranty claim.
