As the authorized Cat® dealer for Alabama and Northwest Florida, we operate in 38 locations across the territory. We provide equipment solutions for the industrial, construction, material handling and farming industries in the areas we serve.

Thompson Tractor celebrated a major milestone in 2019 with the succession of Lucy Thompson Marsh as the fourth generation of the Thompson family to serve as a Caterpillar Dealer-Principal. Moreover, Lucy is one of only five female Caterpillar Dealer-Principals in the United States.

Thompson Tractor Company

Founded by Hall W. Thompson in 1957, the Company is headquartered in Birmingham, AL. The Company’s history has been distinguished by a dedication to excellence and a commitment to service. From its origin as the Caterpillar dealer for the northern thirty-nine counties in Alabama operating out of three Alabama locations in Birmingham, Decatur and Tuscaloosa, Thompson Tractor is now the full-line Caterpillar dealer for Alabama and northwest Florida. In addition, Thompson Tractor is the leading lift truck dealer in Alabama, Northwest Florida, Georgia, and portions of Mississippi and Tennessee, representing leading brands such as Crown and Hyundai. We employ over 1,500 people in almost thirty locations throughout our territory.

Thompson Rents

Thompson Rents is headquartered in Birmingham with Alabama branches in Decatur, Dothan, Huntsville, Mobile, Montgomery, Auburn, Oxford/Anniston, Opelika, Shelby County, Tuscumbia, and Tuscaloosa along with branches in Panama City and Pensacola, FL.

Thompson Power Systems

Thompson Power Systems provides Cat power generators for standby, prime power, base load, or load management capability to meet your energy demands. In addition, we provide Cat industrial engines, designed with the most accurate application engineering to ensure you receive the proper size, installation, and best operation possible. Further, our marine division specializes in customized marine power solutions, creating unique propulsion and auxiliary packages to work for your vessel.

Thompson Truck Source

Thompson Truck Source, a part of Thompson Power Systems, provides parts and service for all makes and models of on-highway vocational trucks.

Thompson Lift Truck

In addition to its locations in Alabama and Florida, Thompson Lift Truck operates throughout Georgia as well as Nashville, Tennessee. Thompson Lift Truck facilities in Georgia include Albany, Atlanta, Augusta, Macon, and Savannah. We are proud to offer the industries leading brands such as Crown, Hyundai, Kalmar, Shuttlewagon, Combilift and more.

Thompson Parts Solutions

At Thompson Parts Solutions, we offer a wide variety of Cat used, rebuilt, new surplus, and reconditioned parts and components that meet the strict Caterpillar reusability guidelines. We also carry other brands than Caterpillar that will also fit your equipment. These parts are available to you at a fraction of the cost of new parts. From the largest to the smallest machines, our team dismantles 25+ machines each year for parts.
