Thompson Tractor Company was founded in 1957 by Hall W. Thompson and is now succeeded by Lucy Thompson Marsh who became the Company President in 2019. We are a full-line Caterpillar dealer for Alabama and northwest Florida and the Hyundai forklift dealer for most of Georgia and portions of Tennessee. Thompson Tractor provides a diverse array of services to customers through our four divisions: Thompson Tractor Company, Thompson Power Systems, Thompson Lift Truck Company, and Thompson Rents. The Company is headquartered in Birmingham, AL and has multiple locations across Alabama, Northwest Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee.

2. How Do I Apply and What Is the Hiring Timeline?

You can apply for a position at Thompson Tractor through our online job board, and our hiring timeline depends on the type of role and how many applicants we get. On the job board, you can view more detailed job descriptions and submit your application electronically. Our team is always trying to review submissions and conduct interviews efficiently. 3. Do You Offer Apprenticeships or Technician Training?

Thompson Tractor offers apprenticeships and technician training through our ThinkBIG Program. This is a two-year college education program, partnered with South Georgia Technical College, to train heavy equipment service technicians. The course combines intensive lessons in the classroom with rotating, paid on-the-job internships at Thompson Tractor.

The program offers Caterpillar-specific training and covers tuition and book expenses for scholarship recipients. It will teach you how to service Cat equipment with cutting-edge diagnostics, advanced technologies, and high-tech tools. At the end of the program, students earn a Heavy Equipment Dealers Service Technology Associate Degree. It also sets participants on a direct path to a rewarding career with our company.
